Overview

James Bond Island Speedboat Tour from Koh Yao Yai

James Bond Island Tour from Koh Yao Yai is a sightseeing trip that takes you to the north of Phang Nga Bay, which is a great place to take photos of dramatic sheer limestone islands. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. Phang Nga Bay covers an area of 400sqkm and is home to some 100 islands, many of which could feature in The Guinness Book of Records either for their beauty or for their freakish shapes.

James Bond Island or Khao Phing Kan, with its famous rocky pinnacle (Koh Tapu), has been a major attraction ever since it featured in the 1974 Bond movie “The Man with The Golden Gun”. On James Bond Island you can see another beautiful natural phenomenon, the leaning rock and that’s exactly what the name Khao Phing Kan means.

We stop at Koh Panyee muslim floating village – whole village built out over water on stilts with a giant monolith guarding its rear. You will get a chance to spend some time in the village watching people’s ordinary life, visit the local school yard, mosque and do some shopping.

We will be cruising by mangrove forests that form interesting channels in the sea. Mangrove forests provide protection and shelter against extreme weather events, such as storm winds and floods, as well as tsunamis. They are rich in biodiversity providing a habitat for wide varieties of animal and plant species.

Lunch is served on board during one of the stops.

Legendary James Bond Island

The island’s original name is Khao Phing Kan, but it became world-famous after appearing in the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun. The movie showcased the island’s dramatic limestone karst formations, making it an iconic filming location. Since then, it’s been widely known as James Bond Island and has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area.

Sea kayaking

One of our favorite parts of the trip is the sea kayaking experience. Two people share a kayak, while a local Thai guide paddles you through serene mangrove forests and beneath towering limestone rock formations. It's a peaceful and scenic ride—and by joining, you're also helping to support local eco-tourism, as most of the paddlers come from nearby sea villages.

Mangrove cruise

Mangrove trees create a unique ecosystem in Phang Nga Bay, one of the most remarkable environments in the world. Few other plants can thrive in this area, making mangroves essential for providing shelter and nutrition for a variety of species. The result is a striking natural system that can be appreciated and explored by anyone who loves the outdoors. This rich biodiversity offers a fascinating glimpse into nature's intricate balance and beauty.

Koh Panyee - Sea village

The floating Muslim village you're referring to is a fascinating place with a rich history. The village was established around 200 years ago by three seafaring fishing families from Java, Indonesia. They were in search of a bountiful fishing area and chose a sheltered spot near a high rock, which proved to be an ideal location. While the older generation in the village still speaks Bahasa Indonesia, reflecting their Indonesian roots, the younger generation primarily communicates in Thai. This shift in language indicates a blend of cultural influences over time, as the village has integrated more into the local Thai community while maintaining its unique heritage.

Caves

Visit of one of many cave of Phang Nga Bay depends largely on low/high tide conditions on specific day.

FAQs

How do I get to your office? Is hotel pickup/drop-off included?

Roundtrip transfer is not included in the price.

Roundtrip transfer rates of local taxi service:

  • Elixir resort – Stop office - Loh Jark pier 400 THB
  • From all other resorts and areas – Stop office - Loh Jark pier 1,000 THB for 1-5 people, extra person 100 THB

Price of the transfer is always roundtrip and is per car. We split the costs, if there are more guests from the same area. Please send us resort name and your room number to arrange the transfer and pick up.

We recommend renting a scooter to come to our office (250-300 THB/day). There is very little traffic on Koh Yao Yai and scooter is also great way to explore the island.

Why should I book speedboat tour instead of longtail boat tour?

Very common question. However longtail boat experience is one of the highlights in Thailand we recommend to do shorter trips by longtail boat like Koh Hong tour.

Therefore James Bond Island tour by speedboat is faster with comfortable cushion seating and more space. It's a long day and it can be convenient to have marine toilet on board as well. Easy access to boat for older people.

Lastly, yes it is join tour, but in small groups 6-14 people what people like about it. Travellers appreciate it when they see other companies with 20-40 people on board.

Definitely value for money.

Do you operate Phang Nga Bay tour every day?

We’re ready to run the tour every day; however, we do require a minimum of 6 participants for each tour. Since the island is not very touristic, reaching this number can sometimes be a challenge. That’s why we kindly ask you to contact us via email or WhatsApp to confirm our schedule and let us know about your availability during your stay. Our team will do their best to coordinate and accommodate your request whenever possible.

Do I need to be physically fit to join the sea kayaking part of the tour?

Not at all! Our local guide will do the paddling for you. Each kayak holds 2 people, and all you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride while wearing a life jacket (provided for everyone’s safety). It's a peaceful and scenic experience—no physical effort required from you.

Do you accept credit cards? Can I pay cash in other currencies than THB?

We do not accept credit cards. Instead, we accept direct payments via PayPal, Wise, or Revolut. For in-person payments, we only accept cash in Thai Baht (THB), as we've had difficulties exchanging foreign banknotes in the past. Thank you for your understanding.

What if the weather is bad? Will the tour be canceled or rescheduled?

We monitor the weather and wind forecast very closely each day to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. If the forecast is uncertain, we make a final decision in the morning and notify all participants via WhatsApp. In case the tour cannot operate, we’ll offer to reschedule it for another day—you're welcome to join if your schedule allows. If rescheduling isn’t possible, we provide a full refund (though in most cases, payment is made just before the tour, so there’s usually nothing to refund).
