Overview

A vacation can leave you with more than a few souvenirs and a fast-fading tan. At Elixir Divers on Koh Yao Yai, we’ll teach you a whole new way of enjoyment underwater. The 3-day Padi Open Water Diver Course is your first step in scuba diver certification. Once certified it allows you the freedom of diving without an instructor and qualifies you to dive independently to a maximum depth of 18 meters

These days you have 2 main ways to complete a course and receive your certification. Padi eLearning allows you to complete all of your theoretical parts including the final exam at home at your own pace and practical part here with us. The other way is the classic class where you finalize both theory and practice here with us, though we send you study materials in advance anyway.

          PADI e-learning

PADI eLearning allows you to complete your studying in the comfort of your own home – or elsewhere! Read all chapters, take quick reviews and pass the final exam. All at your own comfortable pace before arrival to us.

          Day 1

Starting time of the class varies due to our duties. We expect that you have finished your e-learning at home. Now it is time to meet your PADI scuba instructor with introduction of the PADI course schedule - he checks if you have passed the exam, have signed all digital forms and uploaded photo in the app. Then you move to equipment room to explain and try all parts of scuba gear. After about an hour in the office, you move to Elixir resort and continue with pool session for about an 4-5 hours to practice basic skills before your first dive. During the day instructor will get a chance to check your theory knowledge. Please ask the instructor anything that is not clear to you from PADI e-learning. Total time 5-6 hours.

          Day 2

Meeting at the dive shop 30 minutes before our schedule departure. Our diving trips start at different time due tide tables. You can get this information in advance after we check your exact dates of class. Now it's time to dive in the open sea. The first two dives are a lot of practice and reviewing of your skills from the first day in the pool. Instructor will give deep briefing before the dive so everything runs smoothly. Don't worry, there will be enough time to explore marine life as well. Total time 4+ hours. When taking course in only 3 days - another 2-hours pool session is necessary after the dives on the same day 2 or before the dives on day 3. Take a break between the sessions. There is another set of advanced skills that you need to learn before last two dives in the open sea. Total time 7+ hours

          Day 3

Dear students, you ready to your dives no. 3,4 once you passed all confined water skills. Departure time is again according to tide tables but its usually the same time or 30min later as the previous day. Last two dives are partially about practice, but mostly about enjoying the underwater magical coral reefs and fish. Your instructor will check how you dive independently and corrects you in the details. Total time 4+ hours Once we get back to the dive shop with all sessions and dives done - we would like to congratulate on becoming a proud member of diving community.

          Tour's Location

          FAQs

How do I get to your location? Is transfer included in the price?

Roundtrip transfer is not included in the price.

Roundtrip transfer rates of local taxi service:

          • Elixir resort – Stop office - Loh Jark pier 400 THB
          • From all other resorts and areas – Stop office - Loh Jark pier 1,000 THB for 1-5 people, extra person 100 THB

Price of the transfer is always roundtrip and is per car. We split the costs, if there are more guests from the same area. Please send us resort name and your room number to arrange the transfer and pick up.

We recommend renting a scooter to come to our office (250-300 THB/day). There is very little traffic on Koh Yao Yai and scooter is also great way to explore the island.

What is your refund/ cancellation policy for the Open Water Diver course?

We collect 100 euro in advance by bank transfer or Paypal/Revolut/Wise apps to open PADI e-learning. This is not refundable. However you can use it in any PADI dive centre within 12 months. The rest of the payment is collected on Day 1. We dont take credit cards. In case that you paid full amount in advance - we will gladly refund all the money after deduction of 100 euro to cover PADI fee and administration fee if you dont show up for the course.

In your Open Water Scuba Diver certification program, do you offer the open dives only near Koh Yao Yai/Phuket or do I have an option to include Phi Phi dive site as well?

We mostly dive on the TOP5 dive sites in Thailand - SharkPoint/Anemone reef and Koh Doc Mai during the course as we are the closest dive centre to these. We might take students to Phi Phi if there is scheduled trip there during the course. There is extra 600 THB NP fee on Phi Phi. Please pay fee in cash to marine ranges if they show up.

If we opt to do the advanced open water course right after our open water certification, how long does it take?

The course takes 3 days and we recommend to find enough time to absorb all new information, skills and knowledge. We take it seriously and so you should do as well. The whole new PADI e-learning must be finished with many interesting chapters (6 hours+) and 4 open water advanced dives in two days + 1 navigational dive from the beach or from the speedboat.

If we complete our e-learning and confined dives before arriving in Thailand do you offer an Open Water Referral program just for the pending 4 open water dives? What is the cost for that?

The price is 11,000 THB if you come with provided referral form from another PADI dive centre with clearly stated and signed that you have successfully finished all confined water skills within last 12 months. Still we prefer to accept if it has been accomplished not more than 2 months ago and it's in the fresh memory. We totally recommend to start and finish the course with one instructor that would know your skills level with mutual trust.
