Overview

James Bond Island Longtail Boat Tour from Koh Yao Yai

James Bond Island Longtail Boat Tour from Koh Yao Yai is a sightseeing trip that takes you to the north of Phang Nga Bay, which is a great place to take photos of dramatic sheer limestone islands. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. Phang Nga Bay covers an area of 400sqkm and is home to some 100 islands, many of which could feature in The Guinness Book of Records either for their beauty or for their freakish shapes.

James Bond Island or Koh Tapu, with its famous rocky pinnacle, has been a major attraction ever since it featured in the 1974 Bond movie “The Man with The Golden Gun”.

Koh Ping Ghan is another sample of very high leaning rock that has some small caves inside.

We stop at Koh Panyee muslim floating village – whole village built out over water on stilts with a giant monolith guarding its rear. You will get a chance to spend some time in the village watching people’s ordinary life, visit the local school yard, mosque and do some shopping.

We will be cruising by mangrove forests that form interesting channels in the sea. Mangrove forests provide protection and shelter against extreme weather events, such as storm winds and floods, as well as tsunamis. They are rich in biodiversity providing a habitat for wide varieties of animal and plant species.

Lunch on Koh Panyee, national park fees and sea kayaking are included in the price.

Itinerary

Departure at 6.30am - 8am

Your day begins with pickup from your resort between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM, depending on your preferred time—just let us know in advance and please provide your room number for smooth coordination. Our local Thai driver will take you to the northern pier, where you’ll board a traditional longtail boat with a friendly Thai captain who speaks some English. It's a comfortable and authentic start to your island adventure.

Cruise to Phang Nga Bay by longtail boat

You’ll enjoy a scenic 45-minute cruise to reach the stunning Phang Nga Bay, home to dozens of dramatic limestone islands, both large and small. These unique formations were once part of mountain ranges during the Ice Age and gradually emerged from the sea as glaciers melted. Even before the first stop, simply soaking in this breathtaking landscape makes the journey truly worthwhile.

James Bond Island

Our first stop is usually James Bond Island, and we aim to arrive early to avoid the crowds coming from Phuket. You'll take a short walk through the island to reach a small beach, where you can snap the iconic photo with the famous limestone rock featured in The Man with the Golden Gun. It’s a must-see highlight and a perfect photo opportunity.

Sea kayaking

Sea kayaking is one of the highlights of the trip. Two people share a kayak, while a local Thai guide paddles you through peaceful mangroves and under towering limestone cliffs. It’s a relaxing, scenic experience with no effort required on your part. By joining, you’re also supporting local eco-tourism, as most of the kayak guides come from nearby sea villages.

Caves

Exploring the stunning sea caves and hidden lagoons (hongs) is one of the most memorable parts of the tour. Depending on weather and sea conditions, you may visit one of these incredible caves: Lod Cave (Tham Lod): Paddle through a dramatic tunnel to emerge into a hidden lagoon surrounded by towering cliffs. Mangrove Cave: Surrounded by lush mangrove forests, this cave is a great spot to see wildlife like monkeys and kingfishers. Ice Cream Cave (Tham Phung Chang): Famous for its unique stalactites and stalagmites that look like melting ice cream. Each cave offers a unique and breathtaking experience in Phang Nga Bay’s natural wonderland.

Koh Panyee - sea village

Our final stop is usually the famous sea village built on stilts, recently featured in a Turkish Airlines commercial. Upon arrival, our captain will point out the restaurant where you’ll enjoy lunch later. Before that, you’ll have time to explore the village, which includes a floating football field, a schoolyard, simple houses and huts, and many souvenir shops. The local community here depends entirely on tourism and fishing for their livelihood, making your visit meaningful and supportive.

Return to Koh Yao Yai

After about 6 hours of adventure, you’ll take the longtail boat back to Koh Yao Yai, where a car will be waiting to drive you back to your resort. It’s been a full and exciting day, and exploring this breathtaking area is a must-do experience for first-time visitors to Thailand.

FAQs

What to bring on the tour?

Please bring your beach towel, swimwear, flip flops, sunscreen, hat and pocket cash money. There is a beach bar selling coffee, fruit shakes and snacks on Hong Island beach.

Where should I meet the driver to start the tour?

That depends on your resort. In most cases, you'll meet the driver at one of the following locations: the reception area, the resort’s parking lot, or just outside the resort on the main road. Some resorts, such as Santhiya and Anantara, have designated pick-up points. For example, Santhiya guests are picked up at the parking area on the main road, while Anantara guests are brought to the security gate by golf cart. We will provide you with the exact meeting point during the booking process.

Where do you serve a lunch?

Lunch is served in Koh Panyee restaurant as all you can eat buffet.

Do I need to be physically fit to join the sea kayaking part of the tour?

Not at all! Our local guide will do the paddling for you. Each kayak holds 2 people, and all you need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride while wearing a life jacket (provided for everyone’s safety). It's a peaceful and scenic experience—no physical effort required from you.

Do you accept credit cards? Can I pay cash in other currencies than THB?

We do not accept credit cards. Instead, we accept direct payments via PayPal, Wise, or Revolut with advanced payments. For in-person payments at the pick up point, we only accept cash in Thai Baht (THB), as we've had difficulties exchanging foreign banknotes in the past. Thank you for your understanding.

What if the weather is bad? Will the tour be canceled or rescheduled?

We monitor the weather and wind forecast very closely each day to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. If the forecast is uncertain, we make a final decision in the morning and notify all participants via WhatsApp. In case the tour cannot operate, we’ll offer to reschedule it for another day, you're welcome to join if your schedule allows. If rescheduling isn’t possible, we provide a full refund (though in most cases, payment is made just before the tour, so there’s usually nothing to refund).
