Overview

James Bond Island Longtail Boat Tour from Koh Yao Yai

James Bond Island Longtail Boat Tour from Koh Yao Yai is a sightseeing trip that takes you to the north of Phang Nga Bay, which is a great place to take photos of dramatic sheer limestone islands. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. Phang Nga Bay covers an area of 400sqkm and is home to some 100 islands, many of which could feature in The Guinness Book of Records either for their beauty or for their freakish shapes.

James Bond Island or Koh Tapu, with its famous rocky pinnacle, has been a major attraction ever since it featured in the 1974 Bond movie “The Man with The Golden Gun”.

Koh Ping Ghan is another sample of very high leaning rock that has some small caves inside.

We stop at Koh Panyee muslim floating village – whole village built out over water on stilts with a giant monolith guarding its rear. You will get a chance to spend some time in the village watching people’s ordinary life, visit the local school yard, mosque and do some shopping.

We will be cruising by mangrove forests that form interesting channels in the sea. Mangrove forests provide protection and shelter against extreme weather events, such as storm winds and floods, as well as tsunamis. They are rich in biodiversity providing a habitat for wide varieties of animal and plant species.

Lunch on Koh Panyee, national park fees and sea kayaking are included in the price.

Itinerary

Departure at 6.30am - 8am

Our local Thai driver will pick you up from your resort at between 6.30am to 8am as per your wish — please provide your room number in advance. He will take you to the northern pier, where you'll board a traditional longtail boat with a Thai captain who speaks some English.

Cruise to Phang Nga Bay by longtail boat

You'll cruise for about 45 minutes to reach the stunning Phang Nga Bay, home to dozens of islands, both large and small. These impressive limestone formations were once mountains during the Ice Age before rising from the sea as the glaciers melted. Simply taking in this breathtaking scenery makes the trip worthwhile.

James Bond Island

Our first stop is usually James Bond Island, aiming to arrive before the crowds from Phuket. You'll walk through the island and reach a small beach, the perfect spot to capture the iconic photo with the famous limestone rock featured in the movie.

Sea kayaking

One of the highlights of this trip is sea kayaking. Two of you will hop onto a kayak while a local Thai guide paddles through mangroves and beneath towering limestone formations. By joining this experience, you’re also supporting local eco-tourism, as most of these guides come from nearby sea villages.

Caves

Exploring caves in Phang Nga Bay, Thailand, is an unforgettable adventure! The bay is famous for its stunning limestone karsts, hidden lagoons (hongs), and sea caves, which you can explore by kayak or boat. If conditions allow it you will visit one of the caves: Lod Cave (Tham Lod) – A spectacular sea cave where you paddle through a tunnel and emerge into a hidden lagoon surrounded by towering cliffs. Mangrove Cave – A cave surrounded by lush mangrove forests, where you can spot wildlife like monkeys and kingfishers. Ice Cream Cave (Tham Phung Chang) – Known for its stalactites and stalagmites that resemble melting ice cream.

Koh Panyee - sea village

Our final stop is usually the famous sea village built on stilts, recently featured in a Turkish Airlines commercial. Upon arrival, our captain will point out the restaurant where you'll later enjoy lunch. Before that, you'll have time to explore the village, where you'll find a floating football field, a schoolyard, simple houses and huts, and plenty of souvenir shops. The local community relies entirely on tourism and fishing for their livelihood.

Return to Koh Yao Yai after 6-7 hours

After about 6-7 hours, you'll take the longtail boat back to Koh Yao Yai, where a car will be waiting to drive you back to your resort. It’s been a full and exciting day, but exploring this breathtaking area is a must for first-time visitors to Thailand.
